Geoff’s work is mainly figurative, with explorations into landscape, emerging from commonplace events, single moments in time and the unsaid.
"My subjects tend to choose me, probably because they lean towards the autobiographical or remembered events and emotions. I use a variety of media, mainly oils, but drawing informs all my work and visual remnants of under-drawing and early brushstrokes frequently become an integral part of the finished picture. I often use a combination of studies from life and photographs to develop the final piece although I enjoy those first moments of uncertainty when rapid marks seem to have their own life and direction."
Geoff is a self-taught artist, formerly of Cotherstone but now living in Willerby, Hull. He is active in regional art groups as a tutor and demonstrator, and exhibits widely in solo and shared events. Recent solo shows include ‘Ecce Populus’ Beverley Minster and ‘Line and Paint’ Hull Library Gallery.
Awards for his work include:
• Ferens Open Art Competition (First Prize)
• Kyffin Williams Drawing Competition (People’s Prize)
• Harley Gallery Open (Avonside Prize and Judges Prize)
• Staffordshire and Shropshire Prize for Drawing.
